  • What do we win if we save the most energy?

The four winning sites, who save the most energy, compared to their target, will win trees planted in the UK by our partner Ecologi. They have a rigorous due diligence process,  they also have a robust methodology for monitoring trees to ensure the highest survival rates.

  • How are the target energy savings calculated?

Each building is expected to achieve at least 3% in energy consumption reduction in November 2024 compared to November 2023. To reflect recent heating and cooling upgrades, a number of buildings have been allocated a higher energy savings target, the exact value of which depends on your building's energy reduction trend of the past 6 months.

  • How have you split the properties into the four groups?

Properties have been grouped according to their geographical location - North London, South London, East London and West London (including our South-East England properties). This is so that you are up against a smaller number of buildings, and have more chance of being a winner!

  • Not all the buildings have the same energy efficiency – how have you made the competition fair?

To reflect recent heating and cooling upgrades, a number of buildings have been allocated a higher energy savings target, the exact value of which depends on your building's energy reduction trend of the past 6 months.

  • What is Workspace doing to meet energy reduction targets?

Workspace has been reducing energy through a number of energy efficiency projects across our spaces, such as low energy lighting, movement sensored lighting, installation of secondary glazing and a rolling programme of high efficiency heat pumps.

We are also improving our data capture of energy across buildings by going smart and through our building management system called Optergy. This means we can have real-time energy monitoring at a building level right down to equipment in our plant rooms.

You can see more about our performance last year here.

  • Does Workspace use renewable energy?

Yes, Workspace has been procuring 100% of its electricity from renewable sources since 2019. From 1st February 2024 we are upping our game by buying 2/3 of our electricity from a solar farm in Devon. This will contribute towards the UK’s clean energy output.

  • What are the energy efficiency features of our building?

Workspace is committed to improving the energy efficiency of all its buildings. You can see our detailed net zero pathway here. For site-specific information, get in touch with your Centre Team.

  • Why are you holding this competition in November?

The colder months will always place a high demand on energy usage, with lights and heating working hard all day alongside everything else. We chose November so we can all set up good habits over the winter months, we felt this made the ideal month for us to pay attention to our usage.

  • We do lots of things to reduce our environmental impact of our business, can Workspace spotlight us?

Yes! If you’re doing great things, we’d love to let our community and beyond know about it. We can spotlight you in our monthly newsletters, that go out to 4,000 businesses and also on social media too.
