EDINBURGH HOUSE

Energy reduction project in Kennington

One of our flagship buildings in South London, Edinburgh House, formerly a 1960s housing block, was redeveloped in 2019 into a bright and open business centre, home to 78 businesses.

Whilst it achieved a BREEAM Very Good certification and a B-Rated Energy Performance Certificate, it showed an unusually high energy usage at the start of 2022. As a result, we rethought the heating and cooling controls strategy and schedules to meet customers’ needs and avoid out-of-hours energy consumption.

These measures drove an 11% reduction in energy usage across the building - a great example of how effective operational energy reduction initiatives can be. Whilst retrofit investments are sometimes essential, simple adjustments to the heating can also prove very powerful energy savers.

At every building I manage, I always look for the small operational improvements that will make a difference in reducing energy consumption. Every kWh saved helps us to stay on track with sustainability targets.
